What is a VIN number, and where is it in my car?

Posted January 14, 2016

A VIN, or Vehicle Identification Number, is a unique number identifier that every individual vehicle on the road has, including yours! Some vehicles have the ability to automatically tell the Connection Key what the unique VIN is. However, some cannot, and for those cars, the number must be entered manually.

The VIN number can be located in a few different places on your vehicle. You can often find it located on the driver's side door jamb of your car, on the front of the engine block under the hood, or on the driver's side interior dashboard. It may also be on your vehicle certificate if you have that. If you can't find your VIN number, you can always enter the year, make and model of your vehicle to begin using the app, and ask your mechanic to locate the VIN for you.
