Since living in Charlottesville for 20 years, I’ve been to a number of independent mechanics as well as the local dealerships. When you have a car under warranty (bumper to bumper) or you just have money to burn, then you can just keep doing what you’re doing. But if you’re on a budget and you want an honest mechanic with real integrity who just wants to charge a fair price for excellent work, I don’t know anyone else in town that fits that bill. There likely is another mechanic like Jimmy (along with his crew), but I haven’t heard of them. I recommend Jimmy to everyone, when the opportunity arises. Not that Jim needs anymore word of mouth marketing. I don’t think there are any downturns in an economy that will effect his business because when times are tough people go to those people they know they can trust. He’s been working on four different vehicles for more than ten years. I trust Jimmy.

My daughter's car wouldn't start on Parent Weekend at the University of Virginia (UVA). The last thing I needed was an unexpected auto repair bill. GEICO towing service recommended AAMCO, my daughter researched the services and read GREAT reviews. The car was tow and dropped over night to AAMCO, with dropped box for keys, safe lighting and parking over the weekend. I called Monday morning spoke with Mr. Dennis, the car was immediately diagnosed, it's the starter. The part was order, started installed and car back on the road within a day. During pickup my daughter's ran out of gas. The AAMCO Manager, Mr. Dennis filled the car to 1/2 gas meter. I called to pay for the gas, I got "NO extra CHARGE" they were glad to help my daughter again. This is TRULY how you are suppose to treat ALL CUSTOMERS, ALL the TIME. Many, many "Thank you" to everyone at AAMCO on 1134 Emmett Street, Charlottesville, VA.... You BLESSED my daughter and I today.

I thought Shenandoah Automotive, who I have gone to in the past for oil changes and other repairs, would give a similar quote. They insisted that if I have the compressor replaced I will also need to replace the dryer and expansion valve and that they would then need to recharge the air conditioning, quoting the repair at $1,435. Obviously the dealership would know if I needed those things. Don't let them sell you things you don't need. I cringe to think about the repairs I've had in the past there that were not necessary. On the up side, the people are nice.
